Download

Two recorders.
One library.

The extension records a browser tab in Chrome or Edge. The Windows app records everything else: Excel, Teams, the internal tool nobody documented. Both add to the same guides.

Downloads are for signed-in accounts

01Chrome and Edge

The browser extension

Records a tab. One step for every click, typed field and page change, each with its screenshot.

  • Add steps to an existing guide, or start a new one
  • Narrate while you record; the words line up with the steps
  • Run Guide Me on the live page, pointing at what to click next
  • Passwords blurred into the screenshot before it is uploaded

How it is delivered

Your account provides the extension as a zip, built for your Chronika server. Unzip it somewhere permanent, open chrome://extensions, switch on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and pick the folder. It is already set up for your Chronika account.

The download comes from your Chronika server, so create an account or sign in first.

02Windows

The Windows app

Records any program: Excel, Teams, an internal tool. It reads the name of each control you click, so a step says what was pressed.

  • One self-contained ChronikaRecorder.exe, about 70 MB. No installer, no .NET to install, no administrator rights
  • Records one window or a whole screen, after a 3-2-1 countdown
  • A bar over the recorded area shows time and steps, with Pause and Complete
  • The bar and the countdown never appear in a screenshot
  • Optional narration from your microphone

Open it from a guide

Every guide has a Windows app button. It opens the recorder through the chronika-recorder:// link, which the app registers for your Windows account the first time it runs, so new steps are added to that guide.

03Connect it

Four steps to your first step

A recorder acts as you, with your workspaces and nothing more. You approve it once, with one click.

  1. Install

Extension: unzip it and use Load unpacked in developer mode. Windows: run ChronikaRecorder.exe. Nothing to set up first.

  2. Connect

Extension: press Connect this browser on the Recorder page and confirm in the prompt. Windows: enter your site address, press Connect, then approve it in the browser tab that opens.

  3. Press record

Choose the workspace, switch on Narrate if you want to talk it through, and start. In Windows, pick a window or a screen first and wait out the countdown.

  4. Finish

Press Complete. The last steps upload, the guide is written up (by your AI provider if one is set, with plain defaults if not) and it opens in your browser.

Good to know

Why does my antivirus ask about the Windows app?
The app is not code-signed yet. Some security tools are wary of any program that watches the mouse and keyboard to record a guide. Signing the file and allow-listing it with your IT team avoids that.
Can it record a program that runs as administrator?
Not unless the recorder is also started as administrator, because Windows blocks it. UAC prompts and the lock screen cannot be captured.
What if a program shows no control names?
Some programs expose no accessibility information, such as certain games, remote-desktop windows and custom-drawn interfaces. Those steps have no control name, but the screenshot and the click are still recorded.
Where does a recording go?
Steps upload to your Chronika server as they happen, so a long recording survives the browser pausing the extension. The recorders send them only to your Chronika server.
